Rudy Sanchez is a sophomore at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Thanks to the Posse Foundation, he was able to be uprooted from the urbanized city of Lawndale, CA and experience the new terrain of the East Coast. Rudy’s passion for sustainability in communities through environmental, economic and educational means has led to his involvement with many projects, ranging from public speaking with the Rise Above Plastic’s group focusing on environmental education to working with the nonprofit LAANE on creating small business collations supporting sustainable ways to get rid of waste. A firm believer in higher education, Rudy hopes his pursuit in an Interdisciplinary major in Mathematics and Economics will give him better perspectives in promoting sustainable solutions to different communities. Sabrina is currently a rising high school senior balancing a heavy courseload of honors and AP classes along with her extracurricular activities including writing for the school newspaper and serving on both the student council and National Honor Society. She has a passion for spreading the spirit of service in the world through her volunteer work with local food banks, food pantries, and local schools. Sabrina especially loves being able to be a voice for the voiceless to shed light on issues that many people overlook in their busy lives. Her motto is, 'Service is not limited to homeless shelters and food banks, it is a virtue to cultivate in life on a daily basis through the little things, such as holding a door or picking up a dropped pencil'.
Samantha Yvellez is a sophomore at Chattahoochee High School in Johns Creek, GA. Samantha loves to volunteer and uses her baking skills for worthy causes. She makes the most creative cupcakes and sells them and donates the proceeds to worthy charities. Samantha encourages teens to help serve their community and enjoys holding positions of responsibility to serve as an example for other teens. Over the last few years, Samantha has volunteered hundreds of hours to help various causes. As a Girl Scout Senior, she enjoys to encourage younger Girl Scouts to continue their journey with courage, confidence and character. Samantha is starting a new club at her high school called Gamma Gamma Sigma. This club encourages older girls to stay in Girl Scouts or become a Girl Scout and to volunteer in their community.
Sareana is in high school, and is concurrently enrolled at the University of Maryland College Park. She is a youth activist and believes in community organizing. Sareana serves as a Student Member on Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee; the President/CEO of Youth for National Change; Director of Congressional Outreach for the Campaign for a Presidential Youth Council; and an Advisory Board Member of both, EntrepreneuHer & MissHeard Magazine. She also writes articles for both, Her Culture and Girls Leadership Institute. Sareana participates in efforts that will enable for this world to be a better place. She helps and serves others through cooking meals for the hungry; helping under-privileged students; fostering an encouraging environment for girls; volunteering at senior citizen homes; advocating for better youth health; participating in environmental clean-ups; or whatever else she can do in the community.
Savon is a sophomore at T.R Robinson High School in Tampa, Florida. He is currently involved in many extracurricular activities in and out of school such as a runner on his school’s Track and Cross Country team, a member of Best Buddies, as well as the Drama Club and Student Council. On his free time, Savon has volunteered on various occasions at Metropolitan Ministries where he assists in prepping food to be served to less fortunate families in the area. He is an exceptional student who strives and pushes for the highest academic standards and the embodiment of a leader. Savon aspires to become a doctor one day, specializing in either trauma, cardiology, or neurology at Michigan State University. Until that day comes, however, he wants to spend his time encouraging youth to help others.
Sharan Subramanian is a freshman at the University of Chicago studying Economics. He is the Founder and President of “Invest in Chess,” a chess advocacy initiative that is working not only to spread, teach, and promote chess, but also to raise awareness of its practical and educational benefits. At the University of Chicago, he is on the board of the Uncommon Fund (a philanthropic fund containing $85,000 to fund impactful projects), the advisory board of the Center for Leadership and Involvement, and is a member of the Student Leadership Institute, a selective leadership development program for students in the college. He is passionate about making a difference in the lives of others and believes deeply in the transformative power of chess. Sharan is a recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Gold Award and was recently named to The Prospect’s “20 Under 20” list featuring 20 incredible teens changing the world.
Sierra maintains a 4.0 GPA and is ranked number one in her class. She plays an active role in school as junior class president, varsity cheerleader, Trendsetter, and participates in various clubs. She is a member of American Mensa, a high IQ club, and was recently selected as Idaho’s National Child Awareness Month Ambassador for her work with “Snotty is Naughty”, a program she created to educate girls on the negative effects of girl-to-girl meanness.
