In celebration of International Day of the Girl, on October 11, my Girl Up Club gave out candy and made announcements about Girl Up and Day of the Girl all day on Friday. We made posters and had a table set up in our school’s common room with candy, pink lemonade, bubbles, and information about Day of the Girl.
To raise more awareness about International Day of the Girl, we also asked Girl Up supporters to run in the Color Run 5k on Saturday and to use the Charity Miles app to donate to Girl Up. Charity Miles is a free app which donates money from private sponsors to a cause of your choosing, and we asked all of our runners to use the app.
The run started and ended with paint being thrown everywhere, and it was so much fun! We had about 50 people register in our Girl Up group and everyone had a great time!
5k runs are a great and fun way to get support and raise awareness for a cause, especially if there’s paint! The Charity Miles app, a free download to the app store, is also a free, quick, and easy way to donate (it sounds too good to be true!).
We are definitely planning on running in the Color Run for Girl Up again next year!
