Ever want to learn more about the skills needed to volunteer? The IMPACT Academy for Youth is a small organization that partners with educators, other organizations, and individuals to provide events, service opportunities, and mentorship for youth. The IMPACT Academy was founded in 2007 by Marissa Vessels and since then has made big strides in the volunteer spectrum. Now they are a nationally recognized website. Every year the IMPACT Academy hosts a Youth Summit. The Youth Summit is a one day event that consists of workshops, service projects, guest speakers, and much more!
Marissa Vessel shared her experiences with VolunTeen Nation. Marissa is the founder of The IMPACT Academy for Youth and pioneer of the Youth Summit. She mentioned that last year’s Youth Summit was a great success. She also said that what the Youth Summit’s guest speaker talked about, “leveraging the talents and the skills of the youth in attendance, so they can then go out to their own communities and figure out their community needs.”
This year the Youth Summit will be held on October 26th, 2013 in Berkeley, CA. The Youth Summit provides an excellent opportunity to sharpen your skills as a volunteer, so you can then take the skills that you have learned and translate them to your own community. Marissa said that a goal of theirs for this year’s Youth Summit is to get 200 youth in attendance.
The thing that makes this organization unique is the fact that it is an organization for youth, ran by youth! Another thing that sets them apart from other organizations is that its goal is to teach youth the skills needed in order to start volunteer campaigns in their own communities. They offer things such as how to circulate their ideas throughout their community in order to make it easy for others to join. Unify their projects with other youth organizations, and experience the impact that they have by connecting with the recipients of their projects.
All of the information you need about the Youth Summit can be found by visiting their website. Go sign up today, so you too can feel the benefit of helping others!
