Volunteers are the Heart of a Community

The L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth program, as described by Lisa Capparelli, the Senior Vice President of Integrated Marketing Communications at L’Oréal Paris, is a “program [that] celebrates everyday women who follow their true passion to make a difference in the world through volunteerism”.  From the program’s beginning in 2006, Women of Worth has recognized 70 different women and still continues with their goal to “recognize and reward the women who selflessly give their time, energy, and passion to causes close to their hearts”.

Each year, a panel of outstanding women judges selects 10 women from 5 different age categories to become finalists.  After the finalists are chosen, it is up to the public to decide the winners.  There are two winners in each age group, making 10 winners in all.  The winners are then announced at an awards gala in New York City in December, where the National honoree will be given $25,000 to their charitable cause.  All 10 of the honorees will also be recognized and awarded $10,000 to their charitable cause.  Some examples of charities that have benefitted from these cash prizes are Pandora’s Project from Shannon Lambert in 2009, The Hugs Project from Karen Stark in 2007, and ConKerr Cancer: A Case for Smiles from Cindy Kerr in 2008.  Each of these women, and many others, have been exceptional, inspiring, and selfless role models to others and truly set the standards for winners in years to come.

So, do you think you know someone that could be a L’Oréal Paris Women of Worth Honoree?  The judges are looking for “everyday women who follow their true passion to make a difference in the world”.  During the selection process, the judges will be looking at the impact the nominee has made through her actions, whether or not these action truly meet communities’ needs, the passion with which the nominee carries out her work, and lastly the innovation of the nominee’s activities.  If you know a woman that matches these requirements, go ahead and nominate them!  But hurry, the deadline for nominations is fast approaching!  Visit and give one of the amazing women in your life the honor and recognition she deserves for making this world a better place.
